Mr. Saunders has practiced law
in British Columbia for more than 30 years. His practice has
involved a wide variety of civil litigation cases, including
personal injury in which he has acted both for injured parties
and defendants, in the latter instance, being retained by
general insurance companies and the Insurance Corporation
of British Columbia. As counsel he has represented clients
in both the British Columbia Supreme Court and the British
Columbia Court of Appeal. During the last ten years Mr. Saunders
has acted on many occasions for both plaintiffs and defendants
at mediation sessions. Since the year 2000 he has been actively
engaged in the mediation process as a mediator.
A native of Nanaimo, Mr. Saunders
attended the University of British Columbia, where he obtained
his law degree in 1971. Before, and while attending university,
he worked in the logging and pulp mill industries. He established
his own law firm in 1975. Mr. Saunders retired from full-time
practice at the end of the year 2000 and at the present time
handles only a few court cases, concentrating instead on his
civil mediation practice. He is available to act as mediator
anywhere on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland of British
Columbia.
Mr. Saunders is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia, and the British Columbia Mediator Roster Society.
Mr. Saunders has been involved in several community activities, including the Nanaimo Heritage Advisory Committee and the Nanaimo Hospital Foundation. He is a Past President of the Nanaimo City Bar Association. He has been a Director of the Nanaimo Lions Club and the Nanaimo Flying Club and is currently a member of the Nanaimo Yacht Club.
