Harold Saunders

What is mediation?

Mediation is a procedure by which people who are involved in disputes retain an impartial third party (the mediator) to help them resolve issues in dispute without going to court.

Why choose mediation?

Litigation can be very expensive and for the most part a lengthy and complex procedure. If you are involved in litigation and represented by counsel, talk to him or to her about mediation. Your lawyer is the best person to advise you as to whether or not mediation is appropriate in your case.

What if liability is in dispute?

Like every other issue, negligence, or division of negligence, as between the parties involved can be resolved by mediation.

What does mediation cost?

By the far the greatest majority of mediations are completed within one day. The cost may vary somewhat as between mediators, and the cost (if any) of the mediation facilities. Mr. Saunders, charges $200.00 per hour, with a minimum fee of $800.00. That fee includes coordinating the mediation date, arranging facilities, if necessary, drafting the agreement to mediate, reviewing the mediation briefs prepared by the parties prior to the mediation and attending as mediator. He does charge for travel to destinations on Vancouver Island farther than 50 km from Nanaimo at $100.00 per hour.
